Senior Showcase in yarmouth

A Note from Leigh Kirchner

Yarmouth Community Center, Aging in Place - Senior Advisory Council

Yarmouth’s Aging in Place Committee held our first Senior Showcase last April and we all pronounced it a huge success.  We invited older adults with special talents/hobbies they wanted to share.  These included quilting, knitting, sewing, card making, gardening, astronomy, woodworking, ukelele ensemble,  painting, and exercise options.  Participants were encouraged to learn more about each of talents with the idea of trying something new or renewing a hobby they may have enjoyed in the past.

One of the goals of our committee is to keep older adults engaged in activities they enjoy and offer new opportunities for socializing.  Our Showcase achieved both of these goals.  We expect to offer this showcase again next spring.  We had requests from additional  older adults who wished to participate last year and look forward to another enjoyable showcase.

One day workshops have been a hallmark of our committee’s work as it offers a chance to present topics in greater detail.  We’ll choose between these content-based workshops and social events.  Both are enjoyed by all.  Our AIP working group provides feedback and ideas throughout the year, culminating in at least one larger event each year.
