Volunteer Transportation Programs
Age-Friendly Community Initiative (Bethel Region): launched the N2N (Neighbor to Neighbor) Rides program, which provides free rides to local citizens over 60 y.o. for almost any event or activity – medical, social, educational, shopping, etc.
Age-Friendly Sullivan: collaborated with Friends in Action to develop a local volunteer transportation program offered by local volunteers for residents of the economy.
Age-Friendly Portland: partners with ITN Portland to promote access to affordable door-to-door transportation
Wayne Aging at Home - traffic calming crossing signals
Active Mobility & Pedestrian Safety Programs
Augusta Age-Friendly: collaborated with Augusta Police Department to provide a pedestrian crosswalk safety training program
Age-Friendly Mount Vernon: partnered with the Bicycle Coalition of Maine to install temporary road delineators to slow traffic in the village
Age-Friendly Saco: created Saco Cycles, a program that gives bike rides to older residents living in care homes around the city
Age-Friendly Surry: added signage along Rte 172 to slow speeding drivers hurtling between Ellsworth and Blue Hill

Transportation Policy Initiatives
Living Well in North Yarmouth: implemented the "Kite In Sight" initiative, which led to successful advocacy for the installation of permanent traffic calming measures
Age-Friendly South Portland: adopted a Complete Streets policy, added lane delineators, signage, and curb extensions to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety, increase crosswalk visibility, shorten street crossing distances, and calm traffic

The volunteer transportation programs developed by age-friendly, lifelong community volunteers
This video of Age-Friendly Saco's transportation program shows the impact of being able to count on a ride to a medical appointment. The program launched in 2021 under the guidance of Lifelong Maine AmeriCorps member Linda Verville and UMaine Center on Aging Transportation Fellow, Mary Beth Paquette. This year, rides are being given by Lifelong Maine AmeriCorps Member David Steed.
