At Outdoor Access Solutions (OAS), we believe a trail is more than just a path—it’s a gateway to a better quality of life. That was the lens we brought to the incredible work on the Buck's Ledge Community Forest Trail in Woodstock. This isn't just a new trail; it's a profound statement about what this community values.
My life, lived in a wheelchair, has shown me countless times that the beauty of Maine's outdoors is often locked behind barriers—a tricky root, a steep grade, or a simple lack of information. Working with the Buck's Ledge team, our mission was to help dismantle those barriers and ensure this precious natural space is truly inclusive.
The new "Trail for All" is a triumph of intentional, thoughtful design. It incorporates a smooth, firm surface and gentle grades to provide a stable, welcoming experience for people using wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers, as well as for anyone who needs a reliable surface to enjoy nature. Thoughtful details, like resting spots at the top and bottom of steeper sections, make the journey manageable for all energy levels.
Accessible paths make communities better because they are fundamentally about choice and dignity. When an older person,, a veteran with a mobility issue, or a family with a child on the spectrum can access the same healing, restorative power of the woods, their sense of belonging and well-being soars.
The commitment shown by the Woodstock community proves that accessibility isn't an afterthought; it’s a core value. We are immensely proud to have partnered on the Buck's Ledge project and look forward to seeing the countless memories that will be made on this path for all.
