Created by Governor Mills in 2022, the Governor's Cabinet on Aging works across state agencies to help all Mainers age safely, affordably, and in the settings that work best for them. The Cabinet has just released its third annual report, highlighting a year full of meaningful initiatives — including the Community Connectors project, which placed trusted community members in 12 age-friendly communities from York to Caribou to help neighbors connect with resources and stay engaged in community life.
The Cabinet produced four short videos showcasing how Lifelong Maine communities have brought this work to life, each in their own way:
Maine's Community Connectors: An Overview
Saco: Helping All Neighbors
Sullivan: Finding the Helpers
Gray & New Gloucester: Building Trust
St. John Valley: Uniting Through Acadian Culture
The report also highlights Maine's $190 million federal award for the Rural Health Transformation Program, the launch of Creative Aging Maine — a new arts initiative reaching all 16 counties — and the Cabinet's ongoing work on food security for older adults.
It's a rich read, full of programs that connect directly to the work you're doing every day. Read the full report here.
