The Center for the Advancement of Rural Living (CARL) has created a toolkit to help simplify the MaineCare Long Term Care application process, including services like nursing home and in-home care. A key feature is a checklist to organize required documents such as identification, financial statements, and asset records. While applications should be submitted only when needed, preparing these materials in advance is wise.
Lifelong Communities offering end-of-life and advance care planning programs can add this toolkit to their resources. Want to learn more? Join the 2025 Lifelong Maine Conference on June 18 for a special breakout session on this topic!
Dottie Sines, Community Connector and member of the CARL team says,
“It's a proactive tool that can empower the person to remain as independent for as long as possible, but in the event they need it, it's there and they’ve done their part - it can help their family with a very difficult task. I put mine together - it really made me think what a good thing I could do for my son. It empowered me.”
